I wish I were more productive, over the last two years I’ve been trying to be more productive. For me, being productive means making the most out of my time and accomplishing task and of course achieving goals. For most of my life I really just got by, procrastinated a lot and some how pulled through at the last minute. This is definitely not sustainable and eventually leads to burn out.
So if I actually want to be more productive, why would I be giving productivity tips? Because I have learnt a few tips and I want to share and these have helped me even marginally.
Here they are!
Make Lists In Places You Can See them
Okay, anyone else suffers from “out of sight out of mind”? Pretty recently I realised that my mind is fairly neurodivergent. Which basically means that way how my mind (and lot’s of other people’s) is outside of the norm. This can make things like productivity and organization harder. I realised that if it wasn’t right infront of me or I didn’t have a visual cue I would often forget about an item or a task. This is also why I have 3 white boards in my room. I love making lists on my notes app but I also have to remember I made a list so…. You can see the issue there.
Put It In Your Calendar… And Use Alerts
Again, if it’s not in my calendar it doesn’t exist! I put any and everything in my calendar. It has gotten to the point where I enjoy looking at my calendar app and seeing what tasks or engagements I have that week.
Make It Simple
I never stuck to routines because they were always too long and complicated, but now I’ve made my life a little easier by reducing the steps and making things more convenient. I haven’t yet figured out how to do this when I’m not at home, with things like my skin care routine, but I’m definitely doing much better now. Another thing I did was just not fighting my habits… I would never moisturise because I hated being in the bathroom right after I showered so I moved my skin care stuff in to my room- the first place I go after a shower and left my cleanser in the shower. Now each time I shower cleansing my skin, brushing my teeth and flossing are automatic and as I step out and go into my room my skin care products are right there!
Pay Attention To Procrastination
I procrastinate a lot, and I thought it was (only) due to laziness, but a lot of times I’ve just felt overwhelmed or even afraid. Addressing the underlying reason for my procrastination has often helped me to over come it. Sometimes it’s not foolproof… cause I’m still procrastinating!
Celebrate Your wins
No matter how small it is, celebrate it. Also if you mess up a few times it’s not big deal to restart and look back at the drawing board and reconfiguring what you need to do. This is how I’ve reached where I am now… by trying lots of new things and failing over and over again!
I hope this helps, I feel like being more productive and organised takes practice and it’s individual to each and everyone and I’ll continue sharing not just because it helps me with accountability but I also feel like a lot of people are just like me and are struggling and can’t seem to find a way to make it out!
Marry Christmas
